Replace

Updated 2 min read

Replace is a creative building mode built around one simple mechanic: instead of breaking and placing blocks, you swap an existing block for whatever block you're holding. Hold an allowed block, left-click a block on the build surface, and it transforms into your material — no mining, no placing, just direct replacement. It's a relaxed way to experiment with patterns, colors, and designs together with other players, with your progress tracked and ranked over time.

How it works

You join in creative mode and can start replacing blocks right away. Hold an allowed solid block in your main hand and left-click a block on the build surface to swap it. Right-clicking, normal mining, and normal placing are all disabled — replacing is the only way to change the world here. Each successful swap counts toward your stats and shows on your scoreboard.

Replacing only works on a specific height level (Y = -61) and has a 10-second cooldown between swaps, shown on your scoreboard so you always know when you can replace again.

Allowed blocks

Replace is built around solid, simple building blocks — stone and deepslate variants, wood and planks, concrete, terracotta, bricks, quartz, prismarine, and other full solid blocks. Anything decorative, interactive, or physics-dependent is blocked: beds, slabs/stairs/walls, doors and redstone components, signs and banners, carpets, fences, glass panes, plants, light sources, TNT, pistons, and similar items. If a block doesn't work, it's most likely not on the allowed list.

Progress and leaderboard

Every successful replacement counts toward your Replaced Blocks stat, saved permanently. Use /top to see the 10 players with the most replaced blocks.

Commands

CommandPurpose
/spawnTeleports you to the world's spawn point.
/topShows the top 10 players by replaced blocks.
/restarttimeShows time remaining until the next automatic restart (daily at 3:00 AM server time).

Tips

  • Start with simple full blocks like concrete, stone, or wood — they're reliably allowed and easy to work with.
  • Plan your pattern before you start clicking so every swap (and every cooldown) counts toward the design you actually want.
  • If a block won't replace, check that you're on the correct height and not still on cooldown before assuming it's blocked.
